It is very common for people to be highly motivated when they first set out to make money online. For instance, they reserve their web address, come up with a niche based product or service to sell, create a website, find the best hosting solutions, and secure a means of accepting payments. After all of this, they are confused as to why no one is buying what they have to offer. What could they be missing?
Unfortunately, the problem is the website traffic which they are not getting. If people do not see your website, they cannot buy your product or service, and sales will not occur on your website. The truth is that online traffic might be the biggest obstacle to those who set out to make money online. In fact, I am willing to go out on a limb, and say that it is the biggest obstacle.
Back in the good old days, about fifteen years ago, all you had to do to get traffic to your website, was submit it to the search engines. Shortly thereafter, your website would rank, and you would start to receive traffic. Then Google came and moved in next door to the existing search engines. Google developed an algorithm which determined a website's relevance based upon how many quality websites were linking to this website.
Since 1998, how websites are ranked in the search engines has gone through some substantial changes. As we have discussed, the search engines have become far more complicated than in their early years. Furthermore, you need to keep in mind that the number of websites on the Internet has climbed to over 8,000,000,000, while the number of websites which can rank on the first page of the search engine has remained at 10.
The thing that makes the Internet great, is the fact that most of us around the world are able to access anything which is online from anywhere. Furthermore, about one-six of people in the world utilize the Internet. While there is definitely a market on the Internet, the unfortunate thing is that most websites do not receive very much traffic, and the majority of eCommerce websites only see about twenty to fifty dollars per month. Dismal news to those who aspire to make money online.
So how to we get people looking at our website so that we can make money online?
I can tell you this. You cannot generate traffic by simply pushing a button, as some may claim, unless you have thousands of dollars to throw away on Pay Per Click marketing. Even then you will be required to do your keyword research and put a campaign together. Therefore, you need to break your back to get your website all over the web. To do this, you will need an expansive, dynamic online advertising strategy. You cannot simply rely on Google, Bing, or Yahoo for your traffic. If you do, you are selling yourself short of about ninety percent of the visitors who want to know about your website, and the products or services which it offers.
Becoming a make money online success requires determination, hard work, and research. Research as many traffic techniques as you can, and experiment with as many as possible. Though it will cost you time and perhaps some money, it is all an investment. Nothing comes easy, especially the ability to make money online. If it did, everyone would be doing it successfully.
